Patrick Hinson of Pickering High School in Leesville, Louisiana recently signed a scholarship with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) Crusaders. Hinson, who sports a 3.9 GPA will also play football for the Crusaders.
The diminutive Hinson (5’7”-165) is from a family of outstanding student athletes. He is the son of parents Bo and Christine Hinson. His older brother Blake was the district MVP for Rosepine high school in football and was 1st Team All-District, and 1st Team All-Parish in baseball. Blake has graduated and is in his first year of Pharmacy school at University of Louisiana-Monroe. His sister Katie was on the Cowgirl Kicker dance team at McNeese State University. She graduated with a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering , a Masters in Business Administration, and is now married and living in Lake Charles, LA.
Hinson transferred to Pickering as a freshman but could not play varsity football in his first year because of eligibility rules. However, that did not stop Hinson, an over-achiever by nature, from working hard to make himself better.
In his sophomore year, Hinson earned the starting quarterback spot. He led his team to the playoffs, and went on to earn 1st Team All-State honors that season. He followed his outstanding sophomore performance with an even more productive junior season, leading his team to the second round of the playoffs and again being selected to the All-State football team.
This season, his senior year, Hinson had some injuries that kept him out of a number of games. He finished strong but was not getting recruited by any schools. That’s when his family contacted Student Athlete International (SAI) whose mission statement is
“We c-o-n-n-e-c-t- student athletes to college scholarships”.
Once SAI got involved, Pat started to get recruited and eventually UMHB invited him and his family up for a campus visit. Patrick and his family enjoyed the visit and were impressed with the atmosphere, the academics, the facilities, the coaches, staff, and players.
When asked about Patrick Hinson inking his scholarship, head coach Johnny Cryer commented …“what Patrick lacks in physical size, he more than makes up for in his work ethic, leadership, and high character. UMHB definitely got a good one with signing him!” According to UMHB Head Football Coach Pete Fredenburg, Hinson will have an opportunity to play his freshman year.
Student Athlete International (SAI) CEO and President, Stephen Wiggins said that.”Patrick Hinson is the epitome of perseverance. He overcame every obstacle in front of him, ie..his size, injuries, etc.. and excelled. Patrick is an example to all who read this to not let anything stand in the way of your dreams. It was a pleasure to work with such a fine young man and his family.
Patrick Hinson is an example of the student-athletes that SAI works with. If you know of any similar student athletes that are not being recruited or are being under-recruited, please contact SAI at: www. saitoday.com or call us at: U-GRADUATE-2 / (847) 238-2832.
